Fresh off her Golden Bear win at Berlinale, Tilda Swinton is stepping away from acting to curate Supersonic Mediaeval, an exhibition featuring British artist Marianna Kennedy. The showcase will run from May 5–11 at Christie’s Paris, highlighting Kennedy’s mastery of materials like resin, wood, bronze, and Murano glass.

Swinton, known for her unconventional artistic pursuits, described Kennedy’s work as a fusion of the ancient and the modern, bringing craftsmanship and vibrant colors to life. “Marianna’s work has always sprung from a particularly sweet spot, where the ancient meets the unknown and surprising,” she said.

The exhibition, organized by PLVR Zurich, will feature Kennedy’s most significant works, including her carved and gilded mirrors, a signature piece she began crafting in 2006 in her Spitalfields, London studio. The exhibition’s title, Supersonic Mediaeval, reflects the duality of Kennedy’s approach—melding traditional techniques with contemporary aesthetics.

Kennedy and Swinton connected through a mutual friend, bonding over their shared love of artisanal craftsmanship. “I have always been inspired by Tilda’s unique artistic vision and her playful sense of collaboration,” Kennedy noted. “We both respect craftsmanship and beauty, always looking forward while honoring the past.”

While Swinton may be taking a break from cinema, she continues to immerse herself in the arts, bringing her distinctive creative touch to new ventures beyond the screen.
